What is the ruling authority in this country?

For many years we as Christians have been told that Romans 13:1-7 means that we should just sit down and shut up when it comes to government issues. Thankfully, since the 80s, many have risen up to take part in our governmental process once again. Romans 13 tells us, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." This begs the question, then, "What are the higher powers of the United States?" All elected leaders in this nation swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America . This means that the "higher power" of the United States is the Constitution. We, as Christians, are bound to obey the articles contained in it. Our elected leaders are to be held accountable to that same document. In order for us to obey, we need to be involved in politics at every level of government. Yes, we should be praying for those in office, but we must also cal
